MEN AT WORK!
Who could it be now?
Date:
October 2017

And “Who could it be now”? None other than a beautiful broad Bonsmara bull, that made the selection to be used in the stud. Is the tune from the band "Men at work" also in your head now? :)

This "working man" has 45 super-low-maintenance cows now, in a 400 hectare camp in the Namibian Kalahari. All of them bred from grain-free, grass developed cows and bulls – and we continue with the winning recipe! In April 2018 - with hopefully more rain - he will get 55+ cows.

Just shows you, grass developed bulls can also be broad, thick-set and easy fleshing
– and the best part is that they maintain condition, even in the Kalahari.

What do we expect from HIM?

  • a 100 calves per year over 2 breeding seasons!

  • What do we expect from his bull calves?

  • EXACTLY THE SAME!

    • Arcadia Bonsmaras, Arthur de Villiers, Vrystaat Provinsiale wenner
    • Culmpine Bonsmaras, Nick & Peter Farrant, Limpopo Provinsiale wenner
    • Hotvoor Bonsmaras, Danie Olivier, KwaZula-Natal Provinsiale wenner
    • Hartebeestloop Bonsmaras, Joggie Briedenhann, Nambia - Nie-SA Wenner

HARTEBEESTLOOP STUD HONOURED BY SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH COUNCIL (ARC)

    English version
The announcement of Hartebeestloop Bonsmara being selected as the winner in the non-Republic of South Africa category for the ARC National Beef Improvement Stud of the Year, has been received with utter joy and excitement from all of us in the Hartebeestloop camp!.

This year is the first time that studs from all beef breeds could take part in the competition. Furthermore, it was decided by the ARC, to expand the competition to include studs from other Southern African countries and to also include studs registered with SA Stud Book and Breedplan. This decision covers all studs in Southern Africa.

By winning this category, Hartebeestloop Bonsmaras will also be considered with the nine South African Provincial winners for the National (overall) Winner. According to Leslie Bergh (see also his letter to Hartebeestloop), four of the ten herds in the run for the National Winner of this year's ARC National Beef Cattle Improvement Herd of the Year Award, are Bonsmara herds, namely:

    • Arcadia Bonsmaras, Arthur de Villiers, Free State Provincial Winner
    • Culmpine Bonsmaras, Nick & Peter Farrant, Limpopo Provincial Winner
    • Hotvoor Bonsmaras, Danie Olivier, KwaZula-Natal Provincial Winner
    • Hartebeestloop Bonsmaras, Joggie Briedenhann, Nambia - Non-SA Winner

Apart from the beautiful trophy, the sought-after prize for the National Winner, is a visit to the Beef Improvement Federation’s annual conference in the USA. This value of this price is worth approximately N$ 50 000.00. Both the trophy as well as the visit to the 2014 BIF congress is sponsored by ABSA.
The presentation of the certificates for the provincial winners and the announcement of the National Winner, is the highlight of the ARC National Beef Performers Awards ceremony which takes place on Thursday, 29 August at the Spring Fair in Pretoria.

Hartebeestloop Bonsmara feels greatly privileged to have been chosen to take part first of all. To be a winner in the category for non-South Africans is for sure the greatest honour and recognition.
